Are you looking for ways to improve your smile? Dr. Pedersen has the expertise to walk you through this process. Here at Andrew Pedersen Orthodontics, we offer a variety of ways to treat misaligned smiles, including Invisalign clear aligners.
Over the years, Invisalign has grown in popularity, but this also means that there has been a good bit of misinformation. Dr. Pedersen is here to lay out the facts and bust some myths surrounding Invisalign.
Fiction: Invisalign is more expensive than braces
Traditional braces have become more accessible and affordable over the years. Because of this, it’s a common belief that Invisalign will be more costly since it is a newer technology. But, we have some great news!
Fact: Invisalign cost is comparable to braces
Since every smile we treat at Andrew Pedersen Orthodontics is unique, there is no set treatment cost. Traditional braces and Invisalign are usually around the same price. If you have dental insurance, it may cover orthodontic treatment. We will walk with you every step of the way and determine the best treatment plan before we begin.
Fiction: Invisalign trays are painful
Traditional braces have long had a reputation of being irritating or uncomfortable since they use metal brackets and wires that are fixed to the teeth. Naturally, people jump to the conclusion that Invisalign will be the same. But Invisalign uses a different approach, making this further from the truth.
Fact: Invisalign trays are very comfortable
Utilizing the flexible SmartTrack material, Invisalign is customizable to your smile. When directed by Dr. Pedersen, your trays will need to be switched out every 1-2 weeks. You will feel some slight pressure during this transition as your teeth start to shift, but nothing lasting more than a day or two.
Fiction: Invisalign doesn’t work as well as braces
This is a myth worth busting! Invisalign is completely removable, so it’s commonly thought that it will not be as effective as traditional braces. But over time, we’ve found that clear aligners are just as effective.
Fact: Invisalign is just as effective as metal braces
Invisalign has advanced over the years thanks to new technology. Initially, orthodontists used it for post-orthodontic treatment. We have found that clear aligners are just as effective as traditional braces at correcting orthodontic problems. With Invisalign, you can still achieve the smile you’ve always wanted!
Fiction: It’s hard to maintain Invisalign aligners
You’re not alone if you first think of restrictions when hearing the word “orthodontics.” While metal braces have several rules that need following throughout treatment, Invisalign is different.
Fact: Invisalign is easy to maintain
One perk of Invisalign is that you can drink and eat whatever you’d like, eliminating the food restrictions that may come to mind. You’ll also be able to continue your regular oral hygiene routine, brushing and flossing as you usually would. To keep your aligners in mint condition, you’ll just need to remove them, rinse with an approved solution, and store them in a special care kit when not in use.
Fiction: Treatment takes longer with Invisalign
Some believe that since Invisalign is removable rather than attached to your teeth, then you’ll spend more time in treatment. But, that’s not the case with Invisalign.
Fact: Treatment time with Invisalign is similar to metal braces
In our York office, we see various cases and recognize that there is no one-size-fits-all answer when it comes to individual treatment time. There are several factors to consider when thinking about the time you’ll spend in treatment like orthodontic issues, compliance, and age. On average, treatment time with traditional braces is around two years, while treatment time with Invisalign is typically less than two years.
